Poetry

If the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ came to visit me

A reflective poem comparing our modern lifestyle with the Prophet's ﷺ humble example. It is a heartfelt reminder to evaluate whether our daily actions truly reflect our love for the Prophet ﷺ and our commitment to Allah.

If the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ came to visit me…

I would be ashamed.

I would be ashamed to have the Prophet ﷺ visit me,

I would be embarrassed to invite him into my large, comfortable home,

For it would seem lavish compared to his humble 1-room home.

I would shy away from showing him my large,

Well-cushioned bed with a memory foam pillow,

Whereas he slept on dried leaves and on the hard floor.

I would be mortified to show him my kitchen,

The large fridge filled,

Just as much as my garbage bin.

Cabinets full of gadgets making

My life easier

Yet I still complain

about all the work

And not enough time.

SubhanAllah

Alhamdulillah

Allahu Akbar

I forget so often

I would be horrified for him to enter my living space

And see a big black box at its center

With endless streaming services

And gaming consoles below.

Conscience-stricken,

I waste my time filling my mind

with endless entertainment.

I would be humiliated to show the phone,

That's glued to my hand.

Are they making me better, getting me closer to Allah?

The apps I use, the images I see and the videos I watch.

They make me desire this Dunya

And the more I desire

The more I get attached to this world

and forget about the next.

Have I fallen into shaytan’s trap?

Would I show Him my closet full of clothes and things that I hoard,

while I know many live with so much less?

Would my bags and shoes tell Him

I care more about what people think of my look

Than what Allah thinks of my actions?

Would the Quran on my shelf have dust on it?

The prayer mat will be beautiful and untouched.

The Islamic books fills my shelf,

Will he notice they have never been opened?

Would he be pleased with me?

Would I ease his worry?

I love the Prophet ﷺ,

But will my life,

My actions

Show him that?

If the Prophet ﷺ came to visit me…

It would be an honour

I do not deserve.
